When Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist, Rolf Theiler first laid eyes on Chalet Eugenia he was smitten, he pursued his interest in the property with the same determination that led him to achieve success as a show jumper in his earlier years. This was one leading lady he was doggedly single-minded on possessing, with the full approval of Gloria, his wife. And so it came to pass that Mr & Mrs Theiler became the proud owners of one of the most luxurious and stately ski chalets in the world.
The construction of Chalet Eugenia began shortly after the World War II, it took another decade to complete, quite what took so long is unclear but no one can argue that the finished article was palatial and fit for a king and still is. Eugenia was commissioned by the late Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, subsequently passing into ownership of the Bentinck family who are related to the British Royal Family. The Bentinck family kept intact the grandeur and majestic attributes present when they became the owners. These illustrious predecessors have passed the baton to the Thieler family, who have exciting plans to improve and sympathetically build on the glorious history that Chalet Eugenia boasts.
Rolf and Gloria Theiler are worthy owners of this most splendid of properties and an ideal team to take the accommodation to another level. Rolf Theiler has a respect for the history of the property, whilst Gloria Theiler has a love and a flair for interior design, along with a sensibility to sympathetically dress any given interior with the right furnishings and artworks. Plans are already underway to provide Eugenia with a fine addition, a superb luxury spa facility, carved out of the hillside, adjacent to the property with further plans to build a sister chalet in the grounds of Eugenia and they are not wasting time, they plan to have the spa and the new Chalet Eugenie open for the 2014/15 winter season. It’s set to become not only amongst the most luxurious ski properties but one of the largest in the Alps.
Chalet Eugenia is secluded and set in its own private grounds with several acres of open space between it and the nearest chalets, alongside a private driveway guarded by stone lions. Located in a prime position in the village, with only a three minute chauffeured driven or a more lengthy traditional horse-drawn carriage ride, to and from restaurants, bars and lifts. Eugenia also has direct ski-in ski-out access with a children’s Heid Ski Lift, this unique feature is ideal for families who wish to watch their children as they learn to ski from the comfort of their accommodation, just as Prince William and Prince Harry both learnt to ski, whilst their mother Diana, Princess of Wales could keep an eye on them from any of the chalet's balconies or terraces.
Here at SkiBoutique we consider the acquisition of Chalet Eugenia to be a feather in our caps and we are extremely proud to be able to offer this elegant and opulent chalet to our discerning guests.
