For you, a luxury vacation means taking a complete step back. From the moment you board the flight out, to the sad hour the flight departs for home, no decision should be bigger than tea, or coffee in bed? Hendricks or Tanqueray and tonic? Movie night in, or night out with cocktails and dancing? And no lengthy transfer from the airport please; you want to get there, a.s.a.p.! So look no further than Chalet Almajur, St Anton.
Pristine in white she shines against the deep blue sky. Why are skies never this blue back home, away from the mountains? The journey from the airport takes just an hour, barely enough time to finish your drink and get used to the mountain landscape you landed in. As you draw up on the snow-covered road you are greeted by the smiling faces of the professional staff, who are there to ensure your vacation truly hits the mark.
The entrance way is impressive and makes quite a statement with the large, flagstone floor and antique Tyrolean carved wooden armoire. Just minutes later, glass of champagne in hand, you are sitting on the comfortable sofas before a roaring log fire in the spacious white-walled sitting room. The ceiling is dressed with solid wooden beams, retaining that chalet feel, but the décor and furnishings are contemporary, and stylish.
Hours could be spent before this fire, snuggled up with a good book or enjoying a glass of rjoca and lively conversation with friends and family. If you tear yourself away you discover the dining room tucked away, modern glass topped table and upholstered chairs alternating blue to grey. A striking modern picture depicting a mountain scene appropriately adorns the wall contributing to the fun spirit of the chalet.
Hidden further still is the slick, black and steel galley kitchen, and your chef for the week, busy preparing that evening’s canapés and a very naughty-looking desert. Although you did say you prefer to take a step back, you can’t help just keeping a little eye on the food; you might pick up some tips after all.
Dinners are top notch, as are the breakfast banquets, which set you up for a good long day on the mountain. Start these days in style at Almajur as you don your ski jacket in the slick ski room and take your toasty warm ski boots from the boot warmers. Your chauffeur is there to lend a hand with the kit and then drives you to the Galzigbahn lift station just one minute away.
Your complimentary ski guide expertly tours you around resort, guiding you from perfectly groomed pistes to the best lunch spots, and later challenging mogul fields for the boys. For the rest of the week don’t fear, you can take the driver’s tips on the best spots to ski each day – there’s nothing better than some local insider knowledge to make sure you never miss a trick.
Almajur is perfectly located for tranquility and amazing views, and yet within easy reach of the buzzing town of St Anton. Take full advantage and throw yourself enthusiastically into the lively après scene, live music and fast flowing beer, this is the party St Anton is famed for. Once you’re done dancing in your ski boots the Chauffeur is there to whisk you back to the chalet in time for a soak in the tub and canapés before the fire.
Later on there’s another of those tiresome decisions to make – which movie will you watch in your own private cinema? While the discussion gets heated let the charming chalet host top up your glass and beat a hasty retreat to the sofas and the fire. Let them decide, you’re on holiday.
