Climb to New Heights

Chalet Ascencion is a pretty house by a ski piste. What more could you ask! Not a lot – it’s going to tick many boxes.

It is graceful, it is stylish, it is also in a great location. It is very close to the beginner area, a gently sloping zone served by a free drag lift called Mickey from where early skiers quickly graduate onto the gentle greens and blues that descend to the village. It’s a quick 100m over to Arondiaz, the main lift to connect with the vast ski playground of the Trois Vallées. The village of Moriond (often called Courchevel 1650) is a cornucopia of fun for all ages and all snow sports ambitions.

The chalet itself glimmers with sophistication but still creates a soothing (not challenging!) environment for families who like their fun to be cushioned in a bit of luxury. The interior design is dreamily swathed in a colour scheme that favours light and gentle neutrals reflecting the snowy landscape around – and that is, after all, what you are here for. The proximity of mountains through glass windows and of ski pistes almost within touching distance of the terrace is tantalising.

At the end of the ski day, the spa, one of those indulgences that is almost an essential part of a snow holiday, is an oasis of steamy magic that contrasts with the dry cold outside. Here there is a pool where you can swims lengths not only because it is long and narrow but with the challenge of counter currents to up the exercise level. There is both the sauna and the Hammam and other amusement in the form of table football. Appropriate then that, down on this lowest level of the chalet, you also find the children’s bedroom with bunk beds for two younger members of the party. There is a laundry and an extra WC down here too.

The other six bedrooms are all doubles/twins and all have en-suites, two of which have bath tubs as well as showers. The lounge and the dining area are open plan and set off by a fabulously designer central wood-burning stove. The kitchen that is semi closed off. Stairs climb to a mezzanine that looks down onto the lounge. As appropriate for a chalet that truly embraces a modern lifestyle, all three floors of the house are connected by a lift and the garage includes an electric vehicle charging point. And your smooth departure to hit those slopes each morning is facilitated as a housekeeper will visit daily to prepare breakfast and to clean your beautiful space.

From the moment you arrive, on every morning that you sip coffee on a terrace that looks onto slopes where, perhaps, the children will soon be making their first turns under the careful supervision of their instructor while you slide efficiently off to the gondola as excited by the adventures ahead as if you were a child too), to the end of the day when you glide back to the chalet, Chalet Ascencion will look after you well.
