If you were gazing out through the windows of Chalet Lauenen in summer you might well imagine Julie Andrews flinging her arms out and bursting into song, “The hills are alive with the sound of music”. Lauenen is that rare fish, a ski chalet, isolated, in the middle of an Alpine meadow.

As the meadow will more than likely be covered by a blanket of snow, Miss Andrews will have long gone and will be snug, sipping mulled wine, next to a roaring log fire elsewhere in the Alps. Luckily you won’t, you’ll be ensconced in this fabulous accommodation. You’ll also only be a five minute drive from the centre of Gstaad and the lifts. But if peace and quiet, in a tranquil location, with magnificent scenery, floats your boat, then sail away, Chalet Lauenen is for you.

Chalet Lauenen was recently completed in 2013. The designers fashioned a blend of traditional alpine sensibilities with the latest contemporary design. Rich fabrics, aged and honey toned wooden beams and sumptuous furnishings are evident throughout the property, where will also find attention to detail at its finest. Spread over a very generous 600m2 on four floors, providing numerous relaxation and entertainment areas, all with the latest modern comforts, this beautiful property easily accommodates the 14 guests it was designed for.

You will have a wonderful time here, trying out the spaces and deciding which one is your favourite, there are many to choose from. The grand sitting room, for example, is luxurious and sophisticated. A large open fireplace is the main feature of the room, guests can sink into the sumptuous sofas or relax with a glass of champagne on the fur covered day beds. Or you might prefer the less formal day room which is bright and spacious with a wonderful bay window, ideal for daydreaming, as you survey the idyllic pastures surrounding the chalet.

The bedrooms are splendid too. The impressive master bedroom, for instance, has a traditional Swedish stove and en suite bathroom with separate rain shower. A further  five bedrooms will delight.

A beautiful staircase leads the way to the cinema room, which overlooks the main sitting room, high in the eaves. Sink into the comfy seating or relax on a day bed whilst watching the latest films. Chalet Lauenen has state-of-the-art audio and visual systems throughout ensuring a wonderful ambience. The cinema lounge enjoys a 70” high definition screen, Dolby surround sound and an extensive library of movies. Apple TV and the Xbox provide endless entertainment and there is also a Sonos sound system with oodles of tunes wired throughout the chalet controllable from iPad and Smartphone. 

Chalet Lauenen boasts an exceptional spa and wellness area. After a fabulous day on the mountain you can sit back and relax on the day beds whilst dipping in and out of the waterfall showers, sauna, steam room and plunge pool. There’s an outdoor relaxation space with river view,  designed specifically for  you sit and take in the splendour of your location.
